Managing a Pakistan-based remote team from Norway: hours, rituals and reporting
How to design overlap windows, standups and written reporting so a Norwegian team and a Pakistani desk work as one.

Design the overlap window
Pakistan is 3 hours ahead of Norway in summer and 4 hours ahead in winter. A noon-to-9 p.m. Pakistan schedule covers the Norwegian working day.
Agree the hours in writing and review them each quarter; daylight saving changes can shift the window by an hour. Share the agreed window with everyone in Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim who needs the desk.
Routines that work across distance
A daily ten-minute standup plus a written end-of-day note from each person covers most coordination. Norwegian teams are egalitarian and expect everyone to speak up, including offshore colleagues.
Anything decided on a call should be written into the ticket within the hour. Written records also help if the Norwegian side changes managers mid-engagement.
Reporting a Norwegian manager can act on
Request a monthly scorecard with delivery throughput, cycle time, defect rate and hours against budget. A supplier that can't produce these is selling hours, not delivery. Ask for the report in a format your Norwegian leadership already uses.
Set up an escalation path with named contacts and response times on both the Pakistani and Norwegian sides. Norway applies GDPR through the EEA, so transfers to Pakistan need Standard Contractual Clauses.
Holidays, culture and continuity
Share both holiday calendars at the start: Constitution Day on 17 May and the July fellesferie holiday on your side; Eid, Ramadan hours, 23 March and 14 August on ours. Plan releases around them instead of discovering them.
Make sure at least two people on the desk understand each critical system, and keep runbooks current. In Norway, teams in energy, maritime and public-sector technology often run this as a standing monthly review.
Key takeaways
- Fix the overlap window in writing — Pakistan is 3 to 4 hours ahead of Norway.
- Written end-of-day updates replace most extra meetings.
- Adapt the reporting style to Norwegian expectations and review metrics monthly.
- Swap holiday calendars, including Constitution Day on 17 May, before the first sprint.
