Managing a Pakistan-based remote team from Saudi Arabia: hours, rituals and reporting

How to design overlap windows, standups and written reporting so a Saudi team and a Pakistani desk work as one.

Design the overlap window

Pakistan is 2 hours ahead of Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia works Sunday to Thursday and Pakistan mostly Monday to Friday, so agree who covers Sundays; on shared days the overlap is nearly complete.

Put the agreed hours in the statement of work so nobody has to renegotiate them sprint by sprint. Share the agreed window with everyone in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam who needs the desk.

Routines that work across distance

Keep meetings to a daily standup in the shared window and a weekly review; everything else goes in written updates. Saudi business is relationship-based, so introduce the desk lead personally and keep them in the same role for continuity.

Keep decisions in tickets and documents rather than chat threads, so the next shift can pick up without asking. Written records also help if the Saudi side changes managers mid-engagement.

Reporting a Saudi manager can act on

Monthly reports should show throughput, cycle time, defects found after release and hours used against plan. A supplier that can't produce these is selling hours, not delivery. Ask for the report in a format your Saudi leadership already uses.

Set up an escalation path with named contacts and response times on both the Pakistani and Saudi sides. Saudi Arabia's Personal Data Protection Law is now enforced and limits transfers abroad, so check the SDAIA transfer rules before sharing personal data.

Holidays, culture and continuity

Share both holiday calendars at the start: the two Eids, Ramadan hours, Founding Day and National Day on your side; Eid, Ramadan hours, 23 March and 14 August on ours. Plan releases around them instead of discovering them.

Ask for a named backup for each key person, with documentation kept up to date, so illness or leave never stalls a release. In Saudi Arabia, teams in government services, energy and retail often run this as a standing monthly review.

Key takeaways

  • Fix the overlap window in writing — Pakistan is 2 hours ahead of Saudi Arabia.
  • Written end-of-day updates replace most extra meetings.
  • Adapt the reporting style to Saudi expectations and review metrics monthly.
  • Swap holiday calendars, including the two Eids, before the first sprint.
